Captain D’s Growing in Dozens of Markets in Key States
Development director Jennifer Benjamin explains how to expand your portfolio with a Captain D’s franchise
For almost 50 years, Captain D’s franchise has been the brand for seafood; and now, following our historic growth in dozens of markets across the country, new franchise operators are discovering the power of our brand — and the incredible growth opportunity for seafood QSR restaurants.
With more than 500 restaurants in 21 states, Captain D’s is the No. 1 seafood restaurant franchise in America ranked by average unit volume. Captain D’s has set strategic goals for overall franchise expansion plans this year, aiming to open more than 12 additional restaurants by the end of 2016. We currently have 28 restaurants located throughout North Carolina.
As director of franchise development for Captain D’s, Jennifer Benjamin oversees expansion in the northeastern U.S., including areas in North Carolina, where we’re growing by leaps and bounds. Right now, there’s still plenty of room for skilled operators, particularly in the Charlotte, Raleigh, Winston-Salem and Greensboro territories.
She recently took a few minutes to share just a few of the factors driving Captain D’s growth as we continue to expand into new territories.
Passion is a key ingredient to success. Growing a franchise strategically means finding the right investors who are passionate about our product. Because we are the leader in seafood, Captain D’s is a great investment for a multi-unit franchisee looking to diversify their business portfolio.
Captain D’s is perfect for the non-restaurateur business savvy individual. Hospitality industry experience is a plus, but Jennifer points out that the Captain D’s training process is extremely robust and teaches franchisees the business every step of the way. We have 69 National Certified Training Restaurants spread throughout 15 states.
Commitment to our brand is key. Jennifer says that one of the biggest qualities in approving individual franchisees is their level of commitment. “The leadership of our brand feels so strongly and passionate about the future and trajectory we are on. Commitment is a huge quality that we look for. The focus and passion needs to be centered around customer service in general because that’s the way our business is successful,” she says.
“Captain D’s is a really great option for franchisees, especially in some of the more dense areas of the country that are overpopulated with chicken or burger brands. Their market share is basically oversaturated and our brand allows them to diversify,” Jennifer says.
Hands-on ownership is a must. Because the majority of our franchisees are one-to three-unit operators, a candidate who wishes to be an absentee owner is not ideal, Jennifer says. “You can be an absentee owner, but you must have some sort of operational partner. Because the success of our business is based on being extremely guest-focused, if you are not involved in the business, then you are not going to be that successful. We look for hands-on owners.”
The company is currently seeking single- and multi-unit operators to join in the brand’s rapid expansion. For more information about franchise opportunities, fill out the form on this page.
