How A Captain D’s Franchise is Charting Sustained Growth

A strong work ethic, great business instincts and a passion for people have helped Texas-based Captain D’s franchisee Sajib Singha find personal and business success as a Multi-Unit Franchisee.

Building A Legacy One Franchise At A Time.

Born in Bangladesh, Sajib immigrated to the United States in his early twenties to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams. His first job in franchising was at KFC, working first as a shift manager and then as a general manager. Now he has nearly two decades of experience as a Multi-Unit Franchisee, and he’s brought a wide variety of quick-service restaurant franchises to market, including Dairy Queen, Golden Chick, and Schlotzsky’s.

Developing A Sea Of Opportunity.

Last May, he added his first Captain D’s franchise to his portfolio when he opened a location in Bonham, Texas. Despite opening in the midst of a pandemic, the franchise was an instant hit with the community, and Sajib went on to open a second location in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Overall, revenue for his 5 brands grew by 20 to 30 percent in 2020. In a recent interview in Multi-Unit Franchisee Magazine, Sajib talked about how happy he was to have diversified his portfolio with Captain D’s.

“Going into this venture, I already knew that Captain D’s was the perfect brand to help me meet my franchise development goals, but it has continued to exceed my expectations with its industry leadership and ongoing support,” he said. “It has been a pleasure to grow alongside the brand.”

Timing, Innovation, Market Knowledge—Captain D’s Thinks Big.

Sajib’s business savvy helped him see the potential in bringing a Captain D’s franchise to an underserved market. Small towns in Texas were saturated with options for burgers and chicken, but there were no fish or seafood franchise options. Captain D’s was just what Sajib was looking for. Even better, Captain D’s was ahead of the curve when it came to innovation. Our leadership team recognized drive-thru and carryout were big revenue drivers, and last year we developed a smaller footprint buildout to better serve that need. When the pandemic triggered indoor dining restrictions, Captain D’s Franchise Owners were well positioned to grow with increased drive-thru and carryout sales. “They stay ahead of the real estate game with extremely flexible prototype and development options,” Sajib said.

Support Is Onboard Each Franchise Relationship.

Besides our ability to pivot and innovate to meet evolving consumer demand, Sajib was attracted to Captain D’s because of our outstanding reputation for support. Sajib praised the help he received from our team.

“Opening our first Captain D’s restaurants this year during the pandemic might have seemed like a challenge on the surface,” he said. “However, my experience could not have been smoother, proving that the right system in place allows for a well-oiled machine under any circumstance.” He also cited the brand’s market support as a key factor in getting the word out in smaller markets.

The People  At The Heart Of His Success

Another aspect of franchising that really appealed to Sajib was the people—both his Captain D’s franchise employees and his customers. “I love to meet people and make them smile,” he said. “They might be having the worst day, but I go out of my way to make sure they receive the best service and care.” He’s also proud of his management skills and the great relationships he’s built with his employees, and cites their loyalty as big part of his success. “I have had a lot of crew members working with me for the past 10 years and sticking by my side. I feel very fortunate to have them, so I go out of my way to take care of those folks.”

Planning For Growth And Transformation.

He’s currently working on a new Captain D’s franchise conversion, a smart move in today’s economy.  Captain D’s has years of experience successfully converting restaurants, a process that can help reduce startup costs by as much as 25-30%, and get locations open an average of 30 days sooner. Sajib’s goal is to open 25 to 30 more locations across his fast-casual restaurant portfolio in the next five years, but he admits he’s got a lot on his plate, saying, “We’re so busy now I’m not even thinking that far ahead!”
