With more than 20 years of experience in multi-unit executive management, Jimmy Jamshed knows his way around a franchise system. In addition to his other holdings, he owns multiple restaurant franchises, C-stores, and shopping centers.
So, as a seasoned investor, he knew exactly what he was looking for when he set out to diversify his portfolio by buying his first Captain D’s.
“ I like Captain D’s health-conscious concept, the quality of food, and the price. It complemented, rather than competed with, what was already in my portfolio,” said Jamshed.
He also had confidence in the Captain D’s system right from the start.
“I had such a great experience with Captain D’s that I committed to a second location before my first one was even open.”
Jamshed currently owns three Captain D’s locations in Stephenville, Texas with plans to open even more. When asked what so impressed him about Captain D’s, he noted that 50 percent of their restaurants are corporate-owned.
“Captain D’s understands the restaurant business because they run restaurants. They can see the business through my eyes, which is not the case with some other franchises,” he said.
He talked about how Captain D’s helped him identify ways to cut down on construction costs, with building and kitchen equipment innovations that helped his restaurants get to profitability faster.
Those innovations are the brainchild of Larry Jones, Captain D’s Vice President of Construction. He and his team found a way to make the restaurant footprint smaller and manufactured their own kitchen equipment to get the maximum efficiency out of the space.
“By doing that, we improve the unit economics, lower the investment cost, and also lower the ongoing cost of operating the building. It’s a win-win,” said Jones.
